Accessibility
What this site does to be usable by everyone, what it does when you ask for less motion, and what we know is still missing.
Effective September 8, 2026
What we are aiming for
This site was built against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. That is the standard we designed and tested to. It has not yet been through an independent third-party audit, so we describe it as our target rather than as a certified result.
If you run into something that does not work for you, we would rather hear about it than have you give up on the page.
What is built in
Specific things this site does:
- A skip link to the main content as the first thing keyboard focus reaches.
- Visible focus outlines on every link, button, form field, and accordion.
- Semantic headings in order, landmark regions, and labeled navigation.
- Text contrast at or above AA on its intended background, in both the light and dark themes.
- Real text rather than text baked into images.
- Alternative text on every meaningful image, and decorative images hidden from assistive technology.
- Form fields with visible labels, errors tied to their input, and pending and success states announced politely.
- An accordion and a menu that both work from the keyboard.
If you prefer reduced motion
This site uses motion deliberately, and it respects your system setting completely. When your device asks for reduced motion, the scrolling hero becomes a single still image, scroll animations stop, and smooth scrolling is switched off.
You can set this in your operating system: Reduce Motion on macOS and iOS, or Show animations in Windows.
Video and audio
The podcast lives on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. Captions and transcripts are controlled by those platforms; YouTube provides automatic captions for the uploaded episodes.
Known gaps
Two things we would rather tell you than let you discover: this site has not had an independent accessibility audit, and the secure document upload is a third-party service whose interface we do not control.
If either of those is a barrier for you, contact us and we will find another way to work together.
Telling us about a problem
Email brooke@summerhillfirm.com with the page address and a short description of what happened. A real person reads it.
If something on this site is stopping you from reaching Brooke, say so in that email and she will respond another way.
